Microneedling + Microchanneling for Hair Regrowth
How does Microneedling for Hair Regrowth work?
Microneedling has been reported to be effective in reversing hair loss. It does this by stimulating blood flow, increasing the availability of cell nutrients, releasing vascular endothelial factor (VEGF), and upregulating fibroblast growth factor (FGF-7). When combined with home use of minoxidil products (such as Rogaine), the results are even further enhanced.
What is Microchanneling?
We offer hair rejuvation microchanneling treatments using Bio-peptide Growth Factors that offer a less abrasive, more comfortable alternative to scalp microneedling. Microchanneling hair growth treatments are formulated to nourish hair follicles back to a state of ideal health with select growth factor proteins that are naturally present in healthy, young hair follicles. This process allows for a normal hair growth cycle that leads to new hair growth and thicker, fuller-looking hair. Stem cells lining the hair follicles are crucial for production of hair, and the GF-technology ingredients in this concentrated serum are selected to provide support to these stem cells so hair can regrow. These treatments improves the overall condition of the scalp, rejuvenating damaged hair follicles and increasing circulation of nutrients for healthy hair. When delivered using microchanneling technology, the scalp experiences increased circulation and blood-flow to feed our follicles essential nutrients to promote increased hair growth.
Scientifically Proven
A 2013 medical study involving 100 participants randomly divided them into two test groups: one group received 1ml of 5% minoxidil solution twice daily, the other group received the same minoxidil dosage plus a weekly microneedling procedure. Both groups had their hair shaved so changes in hair style could not influence the results.
After 12 weeks, three methods were used to determine how effective of each treatment was:
Change in baseline hair count (the tested area was tattooed to ensure consistent measurement)
Patient self-assessment of hair growth
Blinded investigator assessment
The study found:
“Hair counts – The mean change in hair count at week 12 was significantly greater for the Microneedling group compared to the Minoxidil group (91.4 vs 22.2 respectively). […] Microneedling along with Minoxidil treated group was statistically superior to Minoxidil treated group in promoting hair growth in men with AGA for all 3 primary efficacy measures of hair growth.”
In short, the microneedling procedure led to significantly greater hair regrowth than minoxidil alone. This was confirmed through all three methods of assessment.
FAQs
How do microinjury treatments for hair regrowth work?
Natural hair growth is dependent on the genetic make-up of an individual to support the development of new hair cells. This cellular regeneration occurs within the hair follicles, which are the tiny openings that cover the scalp. A combination of chemicals is required to trigger the production of these cells, including a very important factor called the human growth factor.
Microneedling and Microchanneling therapies are designed to trigger the targeted production of this human growth factor. When the micro needles are pricked into the scalp, it causes superficial and minor wounds to the tissue surface. This prompts the body to set the mechanism in motion for skin regeneration in the area of the wound. Human growth hormone and related growth chemicals are released in this process.
What makes your microneedling better for hair regrowth?
We use a single-use disposable micro-needle cartridge which enables the technician to adjust depth and speed of the device depending on the application and area being treated. As the micro-needles make small punctures into the region of the scalp where hair loss occurs, the body begins to respond by producing growth factors. These growth factors are a natural part of healing in all of us. As noted in the scientific study above, the combination of these growth factors along with a regular home application of Minoxidil 5%, the client will see much more hair growth over just Minoxidil treatment alone.
How is this treatment different from home use of a Dermaroller?
The needles in the in our motorized professional microneedling pen penetrate the skin vertically whereas with Dermaroller the needles penetrate the skin at an angle causing more chance of ‘tears’ through the skin leading to more damage and therefore longer recovery time. Our system offers faster results with less down time as it is more precise and accurate on its depth of penetration and can penetrate the skin from up to 100 times per second with an adjustable speed whereas speed/depth cannot be adjusted with Dermarollers. It will take an excessive number of passes with the Dermaroller to achieve the extent of penetration we can achieve in studio – which means that we can minimize skin damage, pain and recovery time.
Does it hurt?
Topical numbing is available if needed for microneedling treatments - but most clients find it tolerable without numbing. Microchanneling treatments are less invasive and more comfortable.
How quickly will I see results?
Of course this is really dependent on each person. The results shown above from the study was after 12 weeks of regular weekly treatment. We have had clients report hair regrowth after even just two sessions, but we do recommend a minimum of a 4x treatment.
